I have been bitten up several times by buying wines based on a promotional price. But now since last two months I am controlling myself from buying them….

I tend to veer towards promotions that you know are good value. e.g.
Chablis, Sancerre or Pouilly Fume etc less than £8 is unusual so if on
promotion then probably a deal. I Haven't a clue about alot of the new
world stuff - unless from an area famous for something e.g Kiwi Sauv Blanc. Otherwise, my perception is a wine on offer is more likely to be average.

What is more interesting is that the supermarkets seem to believe that price is the most important factor when buying a wine and not much else is considered by the average buyer. This is what we are trying to change.

I definitely stay away from the half-price 'bargains' - once bitten twice shy ;)

There are some bargains - Cono Sur - which was pointed out in the article and others.

Another interesting article definitely worth a read is a blog post by Evan Davis the BBC Economics editor - <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/evandavis/2007/02/how_to_choose_wine.html" rel="nofollow">How to choose wine"</a>

Comments are well worth a read as well ... all 250 of them!
